Fitness Tribute to My Dad

Image
I type this with a broken heart, but as you all know my dad passed away last week in his sleep. My dad was the greatest man I have ever known and never missed anything in my life. He was my biggest supporter in everything I did especially fitness.   He was a very active guy and was his entire life. He (and my mom) are the reason why I am a fitness fanatic. Because of that, I felt this blog post needed to be dedicated to him and all of the fitness memories I have with him. From coaching me and my sister in nearly everything growing up, to bike rides, 5Ks, triathlons, hikes, racquetball, swimming and organized bike rides my dad was SO active and my biggest hero for that reason.  The number of races and rides he participated in during his life are uncountable, and I can't even try to list everything. My dad loved the camaraderie of organized runs, walks, rides. As you all know he was a man of tradition so we did a lot of the events ye...

A Whole Lot of Fitness Randomness

Image
Hi friends! I know I have been MIA from the blog lately and only God knows what I have been doing- a little bit of everything. Life has been crazy busy but I would not have it any other way. This post is going to be filled with all sorts of random fitness stuff. Exciting Updates: I want to start by saying that one of my 2016 goals was to make this my fittest year yet. I am happy to report that I reached this goal. Thank you pregnancy, childbirth and being a mom for making me more motivated than ever before. A separate post to come on this :) I did 5 pull ups this week. That's right- 5 unassisted pull ups. I always do assisted but this week I just tried without assistance and BAM. Did it. I just scheduled some exciting fitness certification classes for March--more to come on this but 2017 will be filled with new coaching opportunities. My workouts lately: Man.. they have been all over the place. Between teaching, working, Jake working out, and Scarlett being ...

Hills, New Class & No Time

Image
I have always been a big fan of running hills. It all started back in the day growing up in Bloomington. I often worked out at local places such as the Tri North sledding hill, and Memorial Stadium for great hill/incline workouts. Since moving to the Indy area I noticed there are NO hills. This place is so flat. Last year a wonderful park opened up just around the corner with a huge sledding/workout hill and a .5 mile paved trail. I have been going usually once a week in the evenings after Scarlett goes to bed and once on the weekends for my workouts. Below is what I like to do: 1/2 mile warm up 3 hill sprints 50 hallow hold tucks Repeat 3 times On another note, I have added a second class to my group exercise schedule! In additional to my Monday evening Sculpt and Tone, I will now be teaching Friday evening Cardio and Tone at 5:30. This class will be very similar to sculpt and tone except more cardio which I love. Here is what our first workout looked l...

Boot Camp/Sculpt and Tone/ Garage Workout

Image
Whew! This last week has been a complete whirlwind- but I would not have it any other way. I feel so grateful that I am so busy- even if it gets stressful. Saturday I had the opportunity to teach a Boot Camp at Athleta in Keystone Mall. It was open to the public and free. I had about 18 people come and it was fun! Below I will recap what our workout was. Monday I had my normal Sculpt and Tone class and tonight I knocked out a 3 mile run and a garage workout. These last few days have looked a lot like this: 5:30am wake up--->work-->home to cram in mom & family stuff-->do my own workout after Scarlett goes to bed while Jake makes dinner-->run JJ-->work a little more-->Netflix-->Bed @ 10:30. Side note that JJ is on a strict workout schedule to shed some lbs. Big boy has gained some since Scarlett has arrived.... so Jake walks AND runs him in the morning, we take a family walk before dinner and usually I run him after my workout. Boot Camp Saturday: War...
