My ideal workout

Image
I get asked quite a bit what I do for my workouts. I sometimes have a hard time answering since I tend to shuffle between a lot of different types of exercise. I teach group exercise, and I am training for a few triathlons, but what do I really, truly, love to do as a workout? I love lifting, I love pushing myself, I love the sweat and pain. Today I left my workout feeling amazing and thought to myself "that was my favorite kind of workout." It doesn't happen very often anymore since I am usually rushed to squeeze my workout in- but today it happened. That hard, intense, heavy, sweaty, leave you hurting so good kind of workout. Jake took first shift at 8am when the gym opened. He got home around 10 and then I went to LA Fitness, which is a little longer drive, but since it was Sunday and we had no plans I knew I could go there without a deadline of having to get home. Why do I go all the way to LA Fitness when I have a beautiful, brand new gym right across ...

March Madness

Image
March. Lots has been going on aside from the constant sadness of my dad not being here. I received two fitness certifications, have been training, trail running, and staying as busy as possible! Certifications: The first weekend of March I spent my entire weekend at the gym. A full day of learning and test taking then another full day of actually working out. The outcome...... a Group Exercise certification and Boxing Fusion certification. They are both through NETA and will be opening the doors to many exciting things in my future- starting with.... teaching a new class! Starting April 3rd I will be adding Boxing Fusion to my schedule. I will teach this Monday evenings  at 7:30pm. This class will be fast paced and high cardio-I am so excited! If you want to join me but are not a member at HWC- let me know!! I will still be teaching Sculpt and Tone on Monday nights at 6:30 so no worries my friends who love that class. Aside from teaching I have also been doi...

February

It's been a long, hard month. Despite the sadness and frustrations surrounding my dad, I have continued to make fitness a priority in my life and quite honestly- it has been a saving grace! I know my dad would want me to keep striving to reach my goals with fitness- so I have been. I am forever grateful for the work ethic and passion HE instilled in ME as a father. My other motivation has been my cousin who left for Quantico the week my dad passed away- he is training to be a Marine Corps Officer. How can I ever give less than my best with these two motivators?       They always say that fitness is the best therapy- and I can now say that is a true statement. Every time I think something feels hard or challenging I think back to January 3rd when I found out about my dad and suddenly nothing else seems hard. It is my motivation to push myself every single workout because that pain cannot be topped. Not only has this applied to working ou...

Fitness Tribute to My Dad

Image
I type this with a broken heart, but as you all know my dad passed away last week in his sleep. My dad was the greatest man I have ever known and never missed anything in my life. He was my biggest supporter in everything I did especially fitness.   He was a very active guy and was his entire life. He (and my mom) are the reason why I am a fitness fanatic. Because of that, I felt this blog post needed to be dedicated to him and all of the fitness memories I have with him. From coaching me and my sister in nearly everything growing up, to bike rides, 5Ks, triathlons, hikes, racquetball, swimming and organized bike rides my dad was SO active and my biggest hero for that reason.  The number of races and rides he participated in during his life are uncountable, and I can't even try to list everything. My dad loved the camaraderie of organized runs, walks, rides. As you all know he was a man of tradition so we did a lot of the events ye...

A Whole Lot of Fitness Randomness

Image
Hi friends! I know I have been MIA from the blog lately and only God knows what I have been doing- a little bit of everything. Life has been crazy busy but I would not have it any other way. This post is going to be filled with all sorts of random fitness stuff. Exciting Updates: I want to start by saying that one of my 2016 goals was to make this my fittest year yet. I am happy to report that I reached this goal. Thank you pregnancy, childbirth and being a mom for making me more motivated than ever before. A separate post to come on this :) I did 5 pull ups this week. That's right- 5 unassisted pull ups. I always do assisted but this week I just tried without assistance and BAM. Did it. I just scheduled some exciting fitness certification classes for March--more to come on this but 2017 will be filled with new coaching opportunities. My workouts lately: Man.. they have been all over the place. Between teaching, working, Jake working out, and Scarlett being ...
