Mini Marathon + Pregnancy

Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great Valentines Day! Jake and I announced some pretty exciting news yesterday:

That's right! Baby Jaworski will be here in August and we couldn't be more excited. We found out Christmas Eve, and let me just say it has been one heck of a ride these last few months. This shirt couldn't be more accurate with Mini Marathon training underway. Bye bye to 8 minute miles for this mama to be!

Let me start by saying pregnancy is NOT a handicap, it is a challenge and a blessing rolled into one. Since finding out, I have continued to work out pretty much every day despite feeling pretty miserable. For those of you who don't know, the first trimester is filled with exhaustion, sleepiness, nausea and mood changes. Therefore, most of my 530am workouts have been eliminated and I have been working out at night and/or at our home gym.

I have been determined to stay active and continue my fitness routine throughout this pregnancy. My workouts have obviously been modified as I cannot lift nearly as much as I was, nor can I run as fast. Some of my biggest challenges with working out have been:

-Getting tired much faster.
-Harder to catch my breath.
-Extra sensitivity to stinky people in the gym, which is why I absolutely choose outside over the gym.

Despite these challenges I still plan on completing (notice not racing) the Indy Mini Marathon in May! I am also going to run the Carmel Half Marathon with my work, but instead of doing the half I will do one of the shorter distances. A group of people I work with do this particular race to support one of our co-worker's and their family, so being a part of it is very important to me. There is no reason I cannot continue my love for running and in fact baby Jaworski loves going on runs already. Jake and I both kicked off training this past week, topping off the weekend with a 4 mile treadmill run today. I will say treadmills are miserable and I am beyond excited to do my runs outside. Jake and I are following this training plan:

Hal Higdon has the best training plans if you need one!

I am 100% ready to have Jake beat me in May, and I am OK with it. I just want to complete it whether I have to run 11 minute miles or even walk some.  I am so proud of Jake for being committed to running and doing his training runs. He absolutely killed his 4 miler today on the treadmill. Here are some pictures of us from the past few years at the Mini:

Being active is so important for pregnant women and I cannot wait to share my journey with you all. Stay warm and keep counting down those days until warmer weather. Happy training for everyone doing spring races! Be on the lookout for an upcoming blog with races that I suggest in the spring in the Indy area.
