Training and Moming
11 days until the Mini Marathon. My first 13 mile run since a year ago when I was 6 months pregnant with Scarlett. Scarlett is now almost 8 months and I feel confident saying I am physically prepared to run one of my fastest half marathons. I am also confident saying I feel stronger than I ever have been. Being a new, full time working mom, wife, and fitness instructor, I've managed to make my workouts an important enough part of my day to get them done, and get them done well. Training and moming isn't easy but if I've learned anything these last 8 months of motherhood it is that taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you can do.
I push myself in the weight room: I make it a priority to lift at least 3 days a week. 1 of those is always a heavy lifting day.
I say no: I say no to lunch meetings, early bedtime, sleeping in- whatever I have to say no to so I can get my workout in. So far, it's been successful!
I get my runs in: no matter when, where or how. I get my runs in every week. With the stroller, with the dog, at lunch, late in the evening...I get them done. There is always time for a run.
I do random, challenging work outs:
I've been doing so many different workouts during this training. I've been swimming, biking, teaching group exercise, and sprints. I swear all of this variety has made my running better.
So there you have it- a collaboration of my reasoning behind being the fastest and best shape I've been in...in a long time.
Did you know? I've been teaching group exercise classes! Sculpt and Tone, Cardio Blast and the occasional boot camp. I love it- let me know if you want to come to a class sometime!

Through my experience the last 8 months I have learned a few things- flexibility is the key to moming and training. Gotta be ready to workout on the fly if you have an open window of time. Also- it IS possible to be in great shape as a mom. Nothing is more annoying than hearing the excuses. On that note:
Some day..
