Mini Marathon Recap
It wasn't pretty BUT I tried my best to find all of the good things about the weekend and race itself! I had a great pre-race dinner at Milano Inn with Jake, Scarlett and my parents, I had the best support system as always. Scarlett had so much fun at her first half marathon (can't tell by her grouchy face in the pics) with Mimi, Pa and Jake, and lastly, I kissed the bricks for the first time. Lots and lots of good stuff!
Mile 9-finish: Shuffle and finish was my motto here. I got a few big strides and bursts in but it wasn't too pretty. Saw my favorite DJ at mile 10 (Joel at Track7.) The rain started to come and I got anxious about Scarlett so I tried to run faster without puking. The cramps were still there. I shuffled through the finish line and still got my same sense of pride and happiness even though my race sucked.
I was no where close to my goal. I probably should have chosen a more reachable goal like "finish!" But I had to be ambitious 8 months post baby. Lesson learned. I was SO happy to see Jake, Scarlett and my parents at the end! So worth all the pain.
#whyimini for Scarlett! Because she was in my belly last year and I said I would do it this year!
Mile 0 with Mimi and Pa.
Milano Inn- tradition the last 4 years the night before the race.
Race Recap:
4am-Up with Scarlett
5am-Alarm went off for the first time since Scarlett was born
630am- Met my parents downtown and walked to the 5k start line and sent them on their way!
I went back to their hotel room and hung out for a little bit. It was right by the start line which was really nice.
730am- got in my corral (H.) I had no one to talk to and was worried about blisters and the weight of my iPhone 6+ on my arm. Other than that I was so excited.
745am- I started! Felt great and was ready to kill it!
Mile 1-6: Side cramps. What are these? I had not gotten a cramp while running since high school. I tried to focus on my breathing but nothing was helping.
Mile 6-9: the track...woof. I tried to take it all in and remember how awesome it was to be running on it.. but man the track sucks. I attempted a selfie kissing the bricks and missed the timing band. My selfie was awful.

They all had a great 5k race too! I missed them. Scarlett got her first medal:)
Exciting news: Jake registered me AND him for a du-athlon in July as a birthday gift. I am so excited to do this together. The next few months we will be training for that!
Something else exciting is that I am teaching a workout class every Friday for my co-workers! We are doing a 6 month health/wellness challenge, so I offered to teach a "cardio and strength" class. Last week went great with 18 people. I will post some of the workouts on here later in the month. I am just excited that people are starting to realize how great it is to workout during lunch.
That's all for now! May will be filled with weight lifting, running, biking, family runs/walks, and teaching group exercise.
