A Whole Lot of Fitness Randomness
Hi friends!
I know I have been MIA from the blog lately and only God knows what I have been doing- a little bit of everything. Life has been crazy busy but I would not have it any other way. This post is going to be filled with all sorts of random fitness stuff.
Exciting Updates:
I want to start by saying that one of my 2016 goals was to make this my fittest year yet. I am happy to report that I reached this goal. Thank you pregnancy, childbirth and being a mom for making me more motivated than ever before. A separate post to come on this :)
I did 5 pull ups this week. That's right- 5 unassisted pull ups. I always do assisted but this week I just tried without assistance and BAM. Did it.
I just scheduled some exciting fitness certification classes for March--more to come on this but 2017 will be filled with new coaching opportunities.
My workouts lately:
Man.. they have been all over the place. Between teaching, working, Jake working out, and Scarlett being inconsistent with sleep I have had to just woman up and work out whenever time allows rather than trying to stick to any schedule. Both Jake and I still work out 7 days a week sometimes 2x a day. Below is my list of what I choose from for workouts:
- Go to Hancock Wellness Center (across from our neighborhood) after Scarlett goes to bed
- Make the classes I teach count as my workouts
- Go to LA Fitness after Scarlett goes to bed ( I go way harder when I go here, just a farther drive)
- Bike/free weights in the morning before at home Scarlett wakes up
- Go to LA Fitness during my lunch hour- this one hasn't happened in a while and I miss it
- Run outside with JJ- I only have daylight on the weekends when I am home so this is usually Saturday or Sunday
The types of workouts I do vary day by day. I try to do combo weights and cardio, light and heavy every day- but sometimes the focus is on one or the other. I have had the recent mindset of going hard in a shorter amount of time. Here are some examples of recent workouts:
-25 minutes stair master
-Back squats: reps of 12 heavy
-Lunges
-Row for 10 minutes
-Run a mile
-Sauna
-3 mile run
-Free weights for upper body
-Box jumps: reps of 15
-Pull ups
-Jump lunges
-Handstand walks
-Run a mile
-.5 mile sprint
-5 pull ups
-10 jumping squats
-.5 mile sprint
-5 pull ups
-10 jumping squats
-.5 mile sprint
-15 thrusters with 85 lbs
-.5 mile sprint
-15 thrusters with 85 lbs
-Row for 5 minutes

Group Ex. Classes:
Happy to report I am still teaching. My weekly Sculpt and Tone class has been killin' it lately. I love seeing these people work so hard each week and increase weights. October and November I did a trial Cardio and Tone class. It was fun- but not a huge success since it was on Friday night.

JJ:
JJ is fat and on a strict workout plan for December. Jake walks him for close to an hour every morning at 5am. Then in the evenings he usually gets a walk AND a jog. Poor guy- he has been getting way too many scraps from Scarlett.

Fitness Future:
I have a lot of plans for my fitness future. I have been dabbling with the idea of doing Crossfit again. Remember this time last year I did a 2 week trail and loved it? Well, I think I may start again but know the schedule is tricky. We will see..
I also made the decision to NOT run the Mini Marathon in 2017. I have done it the last 10 years I think but I need a break. I will be replacing the Mini with a few duathlons, triathlons and other fun challenging races. I think 2017 will be the year of variety. The Mini is great and I love it, but mentally I am over it. I would rather push my body to the limit in another way than running 13 miles. If you have any ideas for 2017 triathlons, duathlons or other races let me know!
