February
It's been a long, hard month. Despite the sadness and frustrations surrounding my dad, I have continued to make fitness a priority in my life and quite honestly- it has been a saving grace! I know my dad would want me to keep striving to reach my goals with fitness- so I have been. I am forever grateful for the work ethic and passion HE instilled in ME as a father. My other motivation has been my cousin who left for Quantico the week my dad passed away- he is training to be a Marine Corps Officer. How can I ever give less than my best with these two motivators?
They always say that fitness is the best therapy- and I can now say that is a true statement. Every time I think something feels hard or challenging I think back to January 3rd when I found out about my dad and suddenly nothing else seems hard. It is my motivation to push myself every single workout because that pain cannot be topped. Not only has this applied to working out, but life in general. Not a single day at work or home ever feels hard because I felt hard on January 2nd and nothing comes close to that feeling. It has also taught me that life is so precious. Nothing is as important as family and you never know when you will have your last day with your family.
So, my workout schedule lately:
ALL OVER THE PLACE.
I am teaching Sculpt and Tone Monday evenings and every fourth Saturday. I am so proud of my class- they have gotten so incredibly strong and I love their commitment!
I have been trying to get a few 2-a-days in. When this happens, I will wake up and go workout from 5:30-6:20, come home and tag team Jake. I then usually come home from work and run JJ. If I don't workout in the morning then I usually will run JJ at night and then go to the gym once Scarlett goes to bed. Notice I say run JJ a lot? JJ is still on a fitness plan- he is so fat. So for now, he still gets a 45 minute walk at 5am by Jake and a jog after work from me. Weekends we try to run hills or go for a longer run.
What's next?
I think I finally finalized my 2017 schedule for races.
- April 22- Carmel Marathon Weekend 8K (will push Scarlett)
- April 30- Carmel Sprint Triathlon- TENTATIVE because this may be Sonoma's birthday celebration
- June 10- Indy Sprint Triathlon @ Eagle Creek
- July 8- Spartan Race Indiana @ Perfect North
- July 30- Tri Indy Olympic Triathlon @ White River Park
- October 6-8- Hilly Hundred in Bloomington
Sprinkled in I will be trying to do local 5ks with Scarlett.
What else?
A few exciting things...
1) I am getting certified in BOXING FUSION on March 5th and will then be adding this class to my schedule in April!
2) I am contemplating starting a fitness group this spring @ Flat Fork Creek. Meet up on the weekends (strollers and dogs welcome) and do a running/hill workout- how fun does this sound? More to come on this one...

I found this card in my dad's backpack last week. It was the poem that he read at me and my sisters' weddings. "Why does the thrill of soaring have to begin with the fear of falling?"
Each day I will put one foot in front of the other and push towards my goals. For my dad, for myself, and for my family. I am excited for what the future holds.
My forever motivation.
