Holidays and Fitness
Happy Holidays! This time of year is filled with family, food and traveling for most people. All of that makes it harder to stay on a good workout schedule, right? Wrong! For me, fitting fitness in around the holidays is fun. For us, we spend a lot of time traveling to Bloomington, South Bend and Chicago and we are always getting delicious food wherever we are with family. It is important for us to enjoy ALL of the food, family AND make sure we get some sort of workout in.
Walks-
Holidays are spent with family, some who you don't get to see much. Grab them and head out for a morning, mid day or evening walk wherever you are! While we were in Bloomington, my mom, sister, 2 neices and brother in law all went out for a walk after our feast. It is always nice to get your blood circulating, burn a few calories AND socialize.
Holiday Runs-
There are so many organized runs around the holidays and they are SO much fun! I encourage everyone to take advantage of their local runs not only because they are holiday themed, but they often are in correlation with a local charity. Here are a few of my favorites:
Drumstick Dash in Broadripple
*Jake and I did this in 2013 and loved it. It supports the homeless.
Turkey Trot in Bloomington
*This one is FREE! I have done this many times. It is filled with Btownies and the route is through campus. Bloomington Bagel sponsors it so bagels and coffee are graciously provided.
Santa Hustle in Indy
*Half Marathon and 5k downtown Indy.
I think I will do this one this year!

This year Jake and I did our own Turkey Trot here in our neighborhood in McCordsville. We had to get down to Bloomington somewhat early, so it was most convenient. It was wonderful!
Classes at the gym-
Holiday season means extra days off work. Take advantage of those days off and go to classes at the gym that you normally wouldn't be able to. Jake and I both had last Wednesday off so we went to a cycling class with my favorite instructor, Angie! We had an awesome workout and got to do it together! Some gyms offer extra classes around the holidays and have special deals to bring a guest since it is likely that you will have guests in town or be visiting someone.
Whatever you do, don't let the holidays make you a couch potato. I hate hearing people say they don't have time to workout around this time of year and they will start at the new year. Start now!
View from my 6 miler run this morning. Hope everyone took advantage of this warmer weather- looks like the cold is coming back tomorrow along with work..... gotta make the best of it until Christmas Break.
REMINDER to sign up for the Mini Marathon! Prices are going to go up soon. I know me, Jake and my parents plan to sign up asap!

My goal is 1:40 this time around.. which means I will need to amp up my training! More on this in another post.

Until next time,friends!
Lots of great ideas in this post. Keeping fit and active is especially important in the holidays, it balances out all the good food and treats we indulge in! Getting outdoors in the fresh air for a run or even a walk with friends and family always makes me feel so much better.
