Second Trimester workouts
Hello! It sure has been a busy but great few weeks for me. It is hard to believe I am already almost 16 weeks pregnant with baby Jaworski. The last post I talked about how I am keeping up with running and working out even though I am pregnant. I am happy to announce I am still keeping up with my running and other workouts. Before I get into those details...another exciting family announcement that ties well with my love for fitness.
This is JJ! Our new baby. Jake and I adopted him from a lab rescue, Love of Labs. He is absolutely perfect and not to mention he loves running, walking and hiking! I have always wanted a dog that could go on runs with me and JJ has fulfilled that for me. He is 1 (ish) and already so well trained. A farmer took him into a shelter a few months ago and then Love of Labs fixed up his attack wounds and put him up for adoption. Dogs are amazing sidekicks for living a healthy, active lifestyle.
Now, on to pregnancy + fitness. Since hitting the second trimester I have felt 100% back to my self again. Jake and I have both been using the Hal Higdon Half Marathon training plan for our Mini Marathon on May 2nd and have stayed right on track up to this point. I am running 4 days a week and trying to incorporate some lifting as well when I have time. My runs have definitely been slower but I am truly enjoying them.
Last week looked like this:
Monday- Coaching for 3 hours
Tuesday- 3 miles on the treadmill at LA Fitness, felt great! Kept all miles around 9:00 minutes.
Wednesday- 2 miles outside with JJ. Right around 9:00 minute miles. Felt great and JJ did awesome! Lifted light in our home gym after.
Thursday- 3 miles outside with JJ. Once again felt great and right around 9:20 minute miles.
Friday- Coached
Saturday- 5.5 miles outside alone. Beautiful day and felt great. That afternoon Jake, JJ and I went on a hike at the state park nearby.
Sunday- Lifted (light) at LA fitness, biked a bit and then took a long walk with JJ.
I really haven't noticed running being any harder since I am pregnant. I am definitely more cautious and listen to my body more than I used to. Quite honestly I feel so much better when working out. Knowing I am helping keep myself and baby Jaworski healthy. I really hope that moving forward people can get the idea out of their head that pregnant women shouldn't work out. Every pregnancy is different and the key is just to MOVE. Walking, running, cycling, elliptical, hiking...all are great!
This week I've got 3 miles, 4 miles, 3 miles and then 6 miles. Really looking forward to warmer weather and enjoying the longer evenings with daylight. Cheers to active spring days!
