Sitting all day is NO good

There is nothing worse than sitting at a desk all day if you ask me. Majority of us have a typical 8-5 job that requires us to be at a desk, in front of a computer most of the day. Not only is it uncomfortable, but it is not healthy. Plus, if you are trying to get physically fit, one workout a day and then sitting all day will not give you the results you are looking for.

I am lucky that my day time job is pretty flexible and we can get up whenever we want. We have lots of paths around our office, and we even have a walking station where we can be on a treadmill and work on our laptops.

We are become more and more “remote” meaning people can pretty much work anywhere. I do still spend most of my time at my desk though, which can be pretty painful. To get through a work week of sitting ,there are many things you can do to save yourself.

Get up often and stretch or walk around the office

*Sometimes I have to take a few laps throughout our building, up and down stairs, and in circles in order to feel better after sitting for so long. I will even sneak in a few lunges or hops up the stairs if no one is around.

 Lots and Lots of water

*Because water is good for you and it will make you get up and go to the bathroom and refill more.

Alternative meetings

*Not all of us have control over our meetings, but if you do or if you feel empowered enough to speak up, recommend having walking meetings, or stand up meetings.

Exercise Ball and Chair

*You know the big exercise balls? Get you one of them and use it has an alternative chair for some of the day. This will help you build a strong core, and abs. And it makes your butt feel better.

 Lunch Walk

*This goes hand in hand with one of my other posts about lunch workouts. Simply use 20 minutes or so of your lunch outside walking or stretching. Throw on some headphones and tennishoes and get moving! Not only is walking good for you, but do you know the health benefits of Vitamin D (sunshine)?

(Yes this is a Purdue study, but we worked closed with Purdue Extension at my old job).

So, get up and walk more! People will catch on and want to join you- I promise.

On another note, Jake and I spent the weekend in Bloomington celebrating one of my very best friends getting married. She was beautiful and so was the wedding. It was at Sherwood Oaks and then the Stables.

Jake and I also got to visit my amazing Grandma who I love, love, love visiting when I go home. She is in a Memory Care home, and I must say it is wonderful there. She was having an excellent day and was so happy to see us!

Jake and I also stopped at Oliver Winery, mainly just to see all the pretty colors. We sure didn't work out much over the weekend but we kick started our Monday with a 5am wake up and workout. This week will be filled with morning workouts, evening runs, and work/coaching. Have a great week everyone & enjoy the final days of colors outside!
